Team description
The Financial Products General Ledger (FGL) team sits at the strategic core of SumUp's financial operations. We own the financial integrity of SumUp's financial products (payment services, issuance of electronic money), ensuring every euro of revenue and cost from our payments, merchant business accounts, banking and cash advance lending products is accurately captured, reconciled and reported.
As SumUp scales, our work has become highly analytical and data-driven. We combine deep accounting knowledge with SQL, AI-assisted reconciliation tools and advanced data analytics to understand not just what was recorded, but why and how our business operates financially.
This leadership role is the owner of the European FGL team. You will lead a team of 6 people, own the quality and timeliness of the e-money and PSP close, and drive the automation and controls that will support our IPO-readiness.
- Lead a team of 6 accountants, setting clear expectations, priorities and workload distribution.
- Coach team members on complex reconciliations, accounting judgment calls and month-end routines; support their professional growth and foster a culture of precision, curiosity and continuous improvement.
- Work on subject matter that covers the core activities of regulated business in the Fintech industry - payment processing, issuance of electronic money and cash advances, characterized by complex financial transactions and big data sets.
- Map the accounting flow for new products and ensure correct treatment before launch.
- Lead the audit and year-end close readiness, with timely responses to auditors.
- Communicate complex accounting issues clearly to non-finance stakeholders and escalate facts and impact when needed.
- Own the documentation and continuous improvement of process governance (Desktop Procedures, Process Maps), internal controls systems and key performance indicators.
